Kumasi, Jan 9, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Police Administration on Friday honoured three policemen for their meritorious work and dedication to duty at the Asawase district's celebration of WASSA (West African Soldiers Social Activity) in Kumasi. Chief Inspector Richard Nana Impraim of the Ashanti Regional Division and commander of the night patrol team took the first prize of a double door refrigerator for the excellent performance of his duty. The second prize of a 21-inch colour television went to Sergeant Daniel Peprah of Konongo for showing dedication to duty and sometimes working outside his normal working hours. Corporal Michael Obeng Addo of the Akomadan police took the third prize of a tabletop refrigerator for punctuality, respect and courage for work.

Addressing the police and opinion leaders from the community, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Frank Adu-Poku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said since it was not worth dying for an institution that does not honour its heroes, the Police Administration has instituted the awards to boost the moral of the personnel to enable them to work harder. He said since effective and efficient policing was very costly which could not be borne by government alone, private individuals and organizations could complement efforts of government. ACP Adu-Poku called on police personnel not to be excessively brutal in the enforcement of law and order to avoid clashing with the civilian population they serve. He asked the prize-winners not to be complacent but work harder to achieve higher laurels.

Superintendent Paul K. Ayittey, Asawase District Police Commander, urged the personnel to be very disciplined, exhibit professionalism and integrity in all their duties and eschew negative tendencies, which tarnish the good image of the service. He warned criminals, especially mobile phone snatchers, armed robbers, car thieves, drug peddlers and all other criminals operating in the Asawase district that the fight against criminal activities would be intensified this year. Supt Ayittey commended the media for co-operating with the police in the fight against crime and called for sustained collaboration.
