Kumasi, Nov. 7, GNA- Communities in the Ashanti Region have benefited from 630 projects executed under the Ghana/European Union (EU) Micro projects, at a cost of 42 billion cedis since 1990.
Dr Kwaku Osafo, Programme Manager of the Ghana/EU Micro projects Management Unit, who announced this on Friday said the projects, which benefited all the 18 districts in the region, included clinics, markets, boreholes, libraries, nurses and teachers quarters.
Dr Osafo was speaking at a ceremony held in Kumasi to commission an 83-million cedis water project sponsored by the EU Micro projects management unit for the Opoku Ware Secondary School (OWASS). The EU contributed 60 million cedis towards two mechanised boreholes water project for OWASS, while the school made inputs in the form of supply of pumps fittings and other accessories valued at 23 million cedis.
Dr Osafo said the Ashanti Region is to again benefit from the provision of 90 projects at a total cost of about eight billion cedis next year.
Eight districts are to benefit from the projects, he said. He named the districts as the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district, Asante-Akim North and South districts, Ejisu/Juaben district, Adansi East and West as well as Amansie-East.
Dr Osafo advised students to desist from wasting their time and learn hard.
Mr Stephen Anokye, Headmaster of OWASS, paid tribute to the immediate past Headmaster of the school, Mr James Berko, for his foresight and untiring effort in securing assistance from the European Union for the water project. He also lauded the intervention of the EU Micro projects management unit, and assured them that the project will be judiciously used.
