Ashanti Region remembers fallen heroes

Kumasi, Nov 11, GNA - A solemn service and wreath laying ceremony was on Thursday held by the Four Garrison to mark the 59th Remembrance Day anniversary at the Adum cenotaph in Kumasi.

It was attended by Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia V, Bantamahene who represented the Asantehene and Lieutenant-Colonel R.Y. Odoi, acting General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Mr Fosu-Mensah Gyeabour, Ashanti Regional Police Commander and other Service Commanders.

The parade, formed by a contingent of 250 men and women drawn from the Ghana Armed forces, Police, Immigration, Prisons and the Fire Service, was under the command of Captain Alfred Botchwey. Reverend Father Captain Ack Kemetse and Sheikh Umar, both clergies of the Garrison, said the prayers, committing the souls of the fallen heroes into God's hands.

Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive read the Bible verse while veteran Sergeant Boakye also read the war verses. Mr Boafo laid the first wreath on behalf of the Government, while Lt-Col Odoi laid the second one on behalf of the security services. Baffour Amankwatia laid one on behalf of the Asantehene and Warrant Officer Class Two Appiah Dankwah, Regional Chairman of the Veteran Association of Ghana (VAG), laid the last one on behalf of the veterans. The knell and last post were sounded bidding the fallen heroes of World War Two farewell.
