Information gathered by the Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) indicates that, Kumasi is gradually being identified as a transit point where some prospective migrants converge to process documents, whilst other innocent victims also fall prey to fake agents who mislead them into embarking on perilous journeys.
The command is therefore poised to increase campaigns on migration issues such as human trafficking, human smuggling and also embark on programs aimed at enlightening the general public on functions and roles of the Ghana Immigration Service.
The Staff Officer for the Command, Superintendent William Essah made these statement on behalf of the Regional Commander, when he embarked on a media tour with the new Public Relations Officer for the Comman, Assistant Superintendent (ASI) Gifty Amgborme in the Kumasi Metropolis.
He said, the arrival of the Regional PRO for the Service would help in disseminating the right information to the public and clear doubts on issues and perceptions people may have about the Service.
Some media houses visited were Pure FM, Angel FM, Hello FM, UTV, Abusua FM, Ultimate FM and Fox FM where they were promised airtime to propagate GIS campaign messages to the public.
The media houses also commended the Command for paying courtesy calls on them in their quest for the GIS visibility agenda in the Ashanti Region.
