Ashanti Regional Minister presents computers to school

Nyinahin (Ash), Sept 13, GNA – Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, has presented 15 laptop computers to the Nyinahin Salem Model School in the Atwima-Mponua District, to enhance teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

He also gave to the school two footballs and a set of jersey as well as free school uniforms, exercise books and souvenir including drinking cups.

This was when he joined the children to observe “My First Day at School”, an annual event to welcome school children, attending school for the first time.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah interacted with the children and assured them of the government’s commitment to creating the right conditions for effective academic work.

He said government would do everything possible to end classes under trees for lack of classrooms.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah advised school children to learn hard and be disciplined to enable them to pass their examinations.

Mrs Gertrude Mensah, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Education, who accompanied the Regional Minister, asked the teachers to handle the computers with care.

She said 10 districts in the Region had been selected to benefit from the Basic School Computerization Project, a public-private initiative being carried out by the Education Ministry and the rlg Communications, a local computer assembling company.

Nii Amon Kotey, the District Education Director, who received the items, said the area had so far taken delivery of 35,000 free school uniforms and 33,000 exercise books.

He appealed to Dr Agyemang-Mensah to help provide a library and computer laboratory for the school.

The Regional Minister later visited Mpasatia and Agogoso D/A basic schools.
