The Chiefs and people of Asogli State in the Ho Municipality will launch the tenth anniversary celebrations of the enthronement of Agbogbomefia, Togbe Afede XIV, and their 2013 Annual Yam Festival in Accra on Monday, August 5, 2013.
The event, which is expected to attract government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the business community, as well as friends and business partners of Togbe Afede, will be celebrated on the theme “Traditional Leadership and Development Redefined.”
A statement issued in Accra said the celebration is expected to attract foreign visitors to invest in the country and to also support various development initiatives including the construction of a new Asogli Technical School initiated by the Agbogbomefia at Akoefe.
A one hundred acre land has been donated by the Titriku family for the building of the school.
Highlights of the two-month celebrations, include sod cutting for the construction of a new office complex for the Driver, Vehicle and Licensing Authority, inauguration of the Asogli Palace Hall and photo exhibition, panel discussions on the institution of chieftaincy in contemporary times and exploration of the Galenku and Adaklu mountains.
Others are special cultural days for settler communities and other traditional areas of the Volta Region, pilgrimage to Notsie in the Republic of Togo, Borborbor competitions, food bazaars as well as a state dinner and awards night.
Togbe Afede XIV will also deliver a lecture entitled: “Agbogbomefia and the defining of Traditional Leadership” as well as have an interaction with the youth on exploring business and investment opportunities.
The anniversary celebration reaches its climax with a grand durbar in September at Ho where invited dignitaries will be treated to the traditional splendor of the Asogli State.
Commenting on the celebration, Togbe Afede XIV noted that “on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of my ascendancy to the throne, I wish to thank my people and all Ghanaians for their support and co-operation as I have tried to play my part in bringing the age-old traditional chieftaincy institution into the 21st century society of democracy and economic liberalism.
Our joint efforts have indeed shown how powerful the traditional chieftaincy institution can be as a force for positive change in the economic and social circumstances of the Ghanaian populace and how it can be brought to bear to improve the living standards of our people,” the statement added.
