Asokore (Ash), July 28, GNA - The T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (SHS) at Asokore in the Sekyere East, is putting up an 18-unit two-storey classroom block at the cost of 186,000 Ghana cedis. Mr Collins Yeboah-Druyeh, the headmaster of the school announced this when he led Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education and the school's board of governors to inspect some facilities being put up through the school's internally generated funds with support from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at Asokore at the weekend.
He said the school had again completed the construction of a four-unit staff bungalow at the cost of 90,000 Ghana cedis. Mr Yeboah-Druyeh announced also that within the last five years, the PTA had constructed a science laboratory, a 12-seater KVIP latrine, two dormitory blocks and a six-unit teachers' living accommodation for the school.
The PTA, he said, had expanded the school dining hall and the kitchen and also provided 40 three-decker metal beds and 200 mono-desks for the students.
Mr Yeboah-Druyeh said, in addition, the PTA had so far spent over 95,000 Ghana cedis to put up a 12-unit teachers' living accommodation estimated at 150,000 Ghana cedis. The headmaster expressed his gratitude to Nana Susubiribi Asante Krobea, Omanhene of Asokore for donating 5,000 dollars for the construction of an assembly hall. Mr Asare Baffour Okai, an executive member of the PTA, regretted that for the past 12 years the school had not benefited from any government assistance and appealed to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to help improve infrastructure in the school. Mr Onyinah, who was impressed with the school's self-help spirit encouraged them to sustain their initiative and foresight. He gave the assurance that the Regional Education Directorate would do everything possible to complement the efforts of the school. 28 July 08
