Nkoranza (B/A), May 31, GNA - Mr. Prince Kwame Fosu-Adjei, an aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate in the Nkoranza North Constituency last Tuesday assaulted a member of the campaign team of another NPP candidate on suspicion that he was working against his chances in the impending primaries of the party.

Mr. Fosu-Adjei is alleged to have pounced on Mr. Kofi Poku, Youth Organizer and a member of the campaign team of another aspirant, Mr. Eric Amoateng and gave him some slaps in the face because he considered him as a "thorn in his flesh".

Mr. Poku told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that he was on his way to feed his grass-cutters in a pen in his neighbourhood when the aspirant suddenly attacked him and gave him some beatings.

The Youth Organizer said Mr. Adjei remarked that he had heard whatever he (Mr. Poku) had been saying about him as regards his chances in the primaries "and before I could say anything he just held my neck and gave me three severe slaps in my face".

He said he fell down on the ground and the aspirant stamped him on the chest as a friend who accompanied him (aspirant) also pinned him down on the ground.

Mr. Poku said he was rescued by some passers-by and he reported the matter to the police at Nkoranza who gave him a medical form to attend St. Theresa's hospital for treatment.

The Police are investigating the matter.

Three candidates, Mr. Eric Amoateng, Mr. Prince Kwame Fosu-Adjei and Mr. Edmund Kwaku Baffoe have filed their papers to contest in the primaries for the constituency seat against the incumbent NDC MP for Nkoranza, Mr. Hayford Francis Amoako.
