Captain(RTD) Baffour Assasie-Gyimah last Friday stunned the residents of Zion City at Abokobi near Adentan, Accra, with a large number of security personnel to demolish structures on some parcels of land in the area.

According to sources, the retired military leader who claims to be the owner of a number of parcels of land in the area arrived at the scene with police personnel believed to have been sourced from the Adentan Police Station, the military and some civilians to pull down a number of buildings.

The residents in the area who spoke to DAILY GUIDE condemned Captain (rtd) Assasie-Gyimah’s action, mentioning that the land was legally acquired for the construction of a mosque and an educational complex.

They further indicated that the project was one of the special initiatives of the National Chief Imam, Sheik Dr Osmanu Sharubutu.

An inspection of the ruins of the demolishing however revealed that the retired military leader had posted a court order suit number BL 543/2005 which was issued by the High Court of Justice, Accra in May 2015.

The order requested him to solicit support from the Adentan Police to embark on the action in a manner that guarantees “peaceful and quiet possession of the said land.”
