Koforidua, Dec. 23, GNA - A workshop to train senior public servants of district assemblies in the Eastern Region on how to improve services to the public, opened at Koforidua on Tuesday.

District Coordinating Directors and Budget Officers from district assemblies in the Eastern Region are attending the workshop. Speaking at the opening, Mr Lawyer Chris Azumah, Director of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, called on the district assemblies to actively involve the people in their fee fixing resolution. He explained that by contributing their ideas to arrive at the fees t= o be charged, the people would own the final decision as well as be more willing to pay for the rates that the assemblies fixed. Mr Azumah said the main aim of the District Assembly reforms was to enable the assemblies to reduce the time and cost of doing business with their clients.

He urged the District Assembly Coordinating Directors to encourage th= e staff of the assemblies to improve upon their relations with customers or clients. Mr Azumah also urged the staff of the assemblies to be friendly and accommodating to people who visit their offices.
