Assembly adopts new budget system

Dodowa, Dec. 16, GNA - The Dangme West District Assembly is the first beneficiary of a new system of budget system called medium-term expenditure framework.

Initiated by the Ministry of Finance and the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council, the system was unveiled at a day's workshop at Dodowa on Monday.

As a system of budgeting, government funds will be monitored to ensure that expenditure matches resources of district assemblies. Mr. Fats Nartey, Regional Coordinating director explained to assembly members that under the system, all documents pertaining to budgeting will be spelt out before approval to ensure transparency. With the help of slides, Mr. Nartey showed to the participants various aspects of ensuring that budgets are forwarded to the regions for approval and implementation of budgets for projects.

Explaining the benefits inherent in the system Mr. Christine Agblewornu, District Coordinating Director said the "activity-based approach" to the programme should be enable assembly members to argue and purify their budget for projects to take off.

"Most of all, sense of prioritising projects would be enhanced for the development of the district, he predicted.
