Nkawie (Ash), Jan 6, GNA - The Atwima District Assembly, in collaboration with Joy of the Lord Needy Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) on Wednesday donated hospital items worth 250 million cedis to the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital.

The items included 12 hospital beds, 13 side lockers, bed pans, plastic clinical bowls and 44 boxes containing other materials. The Reverend James Kwarteng, Executive Director of the NGO, who presented the items to the hospital, said in 2001, his outfit donated hospital items worth about 10,000 dollars to the Kumasi South Hospital.

In 2002, he said the NGO also donated items worth about 20,000 dollars to health facilities in the Offinso North constituency, adding that many more donations had been made to the Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital amounting to about 200 million cedis.

Rev Kwarteng said with assistance from the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), his organisation had trained about 20 counsellors and 100 peer educators to help people to go for voluntary counselling and testing.

Mrs Beatrice Appah, the Atwima District Director of Health Services who received the items, expressed appreciation to the donors for their kind gesture.

She said the items had arrived at an opportune time and would be used for the purposes for which they were intended.

Mr Charles Yeboah, the District Chief Executive, also expressed appreciation to the NGO for the donation and assured the foundation of the assembly's assistance and co-operation.
