Assembly approves six billion cedis supplementary budget

Obuasi, June 26, GNA - The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of six billion cedis following the revaluation of immovable properties in the municipality.

The assembly also endorsed a new rate imposts for properties owned by AngloGold Ashanti and other individuals in the municipality at an emergency meeting on Saturday.

Under the new rate imposts, AngloGold Ashanti is expected to pay 3.8 billion cedis whilst other publics would pay a total of 2.1 billion cedis as property rate.

The projects to be carried out by the assembly included the construction of children's ward and the expansion of the Out-Patient Department (OPD) of the Obuasi Government Hospital. Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, the Municipal Chief Executive, said Ntosua needed a primary school block and Binsere too needed a junior secondary school block hence the vote of 600 million cedis for the two school projects.

Other projects approved by the assembly included the construction of 18-unit classroom block at Kwabrafoso and a new Municipal Chief Executive's bungalow.

Mr Boampong said the assembly intended to purchase a skip truck to augment refuse collection in the municipality whilst some access roads would be maintained.

Nana Asirifi Asare II, the Presiding Member, urged the assembly members to educate their electorate on the new revaluation list.
