Zabzugu (N/R), Dec 19, GNA - The Director-General of the Ghana Health Services (GHS), Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, has commended the Zabzugu-Tatale District Assembly for collaborating with the GHS and other development partners to provide sustainable health services to the people.
He made the commendation after he had inspected health projects being undertaken by the district assembly.
The projects are an office for the district health management team, a 20-bed ward at the Zabzugu Health Centre, a clinic at Sabare and a three-bedroom bungalow at Zabzugu.
Prof. Akosa thanked the assembly for providing health facilities and called for the upgrading of the Zabzugu Health Centre to a district hospital to enhance health service delivery.
He commended the health workers for working under difficult conditions and urged them to continue with their good work. The Zabzugu-Tatale District Chief Executive, Alhaji Yakubu Bukari said the effort of the assembly in providing health infrastructure was in fulfilment of the government's commitment to providing affordable health services to the people.
He said work on a block of six-unit office for the National Health Insurance Scheme would start soon to facilitate the implementation of the scheme in the district.
The Zabzugu-Tatale District Assembly, the GHS and the Yendi Catholic Diocese have signed a memorandum of understanding to hand over the management of the Tatale Health Centre to the Church.
The Very Reverend Vincent Boi-Nai, the Bishop of the Yendi Diocese and the District Director of Health Services, Dr Zakaria Seidu signed for the church and GHS respectively while the District Chief Executive, Alhaji Bukari, signed for the district assembly.
Bishop Boi-Naii said the church was not only committed to the transformation of the spiritual and moral lives of the people but to help improve their welfare.
He commended the chiefs and people of Zabzugu and Tatale for the relative peace and harmony in the area adding "This is a good recipe for development and progress, which the church is happy to be associated with.''
Alhaji Bukari said the health facilities were in a deplorable state and required urgent attention and called on the donors and NGOs to provide health infrastructure.
