Breman Amanfopong (C/R) July 1 GNA-A 96-million cedis nurses quarters constructed by the Asikuma Odeben Brakwa district assembly, EU, the Ghana government and the community was commissioned at Breman Amanfopong on Thursday. The EU provided over 68 million cedis, representing 75 per cent, the government and the assembly contributed 25 per cent, while the community gave out the rest through communal labour.
Dr. Kweku Osafo, National Project Manager of EU said in his address said that the Central Region benefited from 303 projects during the fourth phase of the EU programme last year of which the district had 22 projects. He said an amount of 25 million Euros has been released for the fifth phase, which would start in July 2005. According to him the first six months would be used to prepare the necessary documents for the programme to start completely on January 2006.
Mr. Alex Addison, district Coordinating director urged communities that have benefit from EU programme to form maintenance units to ensure regular maintenance of the projects to pro-long their life span. The chief and elders of Amanfopong thanked the EU for their gesture and promised that the people would take proper care of the project. They appealed to EU and the district assembly to help the people to construct a permanent structure for the Clinic, because the present building housing it was meant for a Cassava Processing Company and the owners are demanding it back.
