Begoro, March 7, GNA - Members of the Fanteakwa District Assembly have expressed dissatisfaction at the poor performance of students of the district at last year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The members said they were unhappy that over 51 per cent of the students who took part in the examinations failed and two schools obtained zero per cent.

These concerns were expressed at the first ordinary meeting of the assembly at Begoro.

Presided over by Mr Adjabeng Ntori, the members expressed their displeasure at the indifferent behaviour of parents towards the education of their wards. They said it was important for the assembly to enact byelaws to punish parents who refuse to provide for the educational needs of their children.

The District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, called on stakeholders in education to help prevent the re-occurrence of such poor performance. Mr Caesar appealed to parents to show concern at the education of their wards by providing them with their needs.
