Ejisu (Ash), Nov. 1, GNA - The Ejisu-Juaben District Assembly on Friday failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) for the Assembly after two rounds of balloting.

The Assembly would, therefore, reconvene in two weeks for the purpose of electing a PM.

In the first round of balloting, the incumbent PM, Mr Michael Dwomoh Sarpong, Assemblyman for Donyina and Mr Yaw Sekyere, his challenger, the Assemblyman for Apromase, polled 28 and 26 votes, respectively out of the 55 votes cast.

Since none of them was able to get the two-thirds majority to win, they went for a second balloting and here again Mr Sarpong had 27 votes and Mr Sekyere polled 26 votes, while two papers were rejected. This forced the Assembly to fix another date for the elections, which prompted Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive to appeal to the Assembly members to reach a compromise before the next elections.
