The New Juaben Municipal Assembly has engaged the services of specialized Mathematics, Science and English tutors to help improve the perennial poor performance of their students in the subjects.

BECE candidates from the municipality have for many years struggled to pass the three core subjects, which are integral to progressing to the secondary level of education in the country.

According to the New Juaben Municipal Education Directorate of Ghana Education Service, only 16% of candidates had grade 1 to 3 in mathematics in the 2015 BECE, whiles candidates who had grade 1 to 3 in English and Science stood at 13% and 19% respectively.

The decline in performances of BECE candidates has become a major concern to the Municipal Assembly hence the decision to organise a three-month intensive classes for the 2,165 candidates in the municipality ahead of the 2016 exams.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the area Kwabena Kusi Okyere told Starr News he is confident the measure will help improve the pass rate of students.

The Deputy Municipal Director of GES, Cephas Noagbesenu on his part said the GES is concerned about the development and is grateful to the assembly for the initiative.
