Nkoranza (B/A), Feb. 6, GNA - Mr. Akwasi Owusu-Sekyere, Member of Nkoranza District Assembly in Brong-Ahafo has expressed concern about the slow rate of work on the Nkoranza-Ejura and Nkoranza-Sekyere-Dumase roads and called for the termination of the contract. Work on the two projects, which was started about two years ago have virtually grounded to a halt, Mr. Owusu-Sekyere told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza.

The Assembly Member recalled that about three years ago, Dr Richard

Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport informed the people in the area that the two roads would be tarred to facilitate their movement to promote their economic activities.

He said the Minister was addressing the chiefs and people at the inauguration of the District Assembly.

Mr. Owusu-Sekyere said the Minister even warned that if the assurances given by his Ministry and the President about the roads should turn out to be a "political gimmick", then he would not be surprised if the people of Nkoranza decided otherwise during the next election.

The Assembly Member said the people were getting impatient about the delay in the fulfilment of promises and assurances by some politicians and appealed to President Kufuor to intervene to save the situation. Mr. Owusu-Sekyere said as party politics was about choices, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party should work hard to maintain the trust and confidence that Ghanaians had reposed in the party.
