Mr. Samuel Addo Ofosu, Assembly Member for the Asakraka Electoral Area in the Kwahu South District, has expressed worry about the large number of youth engaged in prostitution and the use of illicit narcotic drugs in the area.
He said, what was more worrying was the involvement of children of school going age between the ages of 13 and18 years in such shameful acts, saying everybody, including parents, needed to help fight the social canker.
Mr Ofosu was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the development of his electoral area at Asakraka.
He said the District Assembly has allocated Gh?1,252,000.00 for the renovation and construction of places of convenience for pupils at the Roman Catholic Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High School and the Presbyterian Junior High School in the area.
Mr Ofosu said to address environmental sanitation, every Wednesday has been set aside as a communal labor day to support the National Sanitation Day Exercise.
He appealed to the Assembly to provide a kraal where stray livestock roaming in the area could be kept and the owners made to pay a fine before their animals are released to them.
Mr Ofosu said the District Assembly had also budgeted for an amount of Gh?1,200,000.00 for the renovation of a health centre which has been abandoned by the community.
He said plans have also been made to extend the electricity network in the area and improve the street lights to help improve security in the area during night time.
Mr Ofosu appealed to Non- Governmental- Organizations (NGOs) and philanthropists to support the development of the area.
