Obuasi, Dec. 24, GNA - Nana Asirifi Asare II, Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA), has urged assembly members to initiate revenue mobilization drive in their areas to help improve internally generated funds for the Assembly.

He said it was important for the assembly members to sensitize prospective taxpayers to be alive to their civic responsibilities. Nana Asirifi Asare, who was addressing the general meeting of the Assembly at Obuasi, further asked members to also effectively monitor revenue collection in their electoral areas to check abuses. He said the Assembly needed enough revenue to undertake development projects and that there was nothing "We should do to impact negatively on the Assembly finances".

He again asked the members to take active interest in the execution of Assembly projects in their areas.

"As you are aware, this Assembly stands for quality jobs and therefore your interest in such projects will ultimately alert the contractors and their workers to avoid any shoddy works", he said. Nana Asirifi Asare pointed out that the Assembly had chalked some successes in sanitation but there still existed problems within the municipality and appealed to the members to mobilize the people for periodic clean-up exercises to improve the sanitation situation. The Presiding Member reiterated his call on the members to let the spirit of love, team work, unity and non-partisan interest to permeate the Assembly's deliberations.

He observed that the Assembly needed a peaceful atmosphere and a pure mind from its members to operate in order to meet the aspirations of the electorate.

Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, Municipal Chief Executive, appealed to the assembly members to avoid useless controversies and "hopeless debates which will only lead to waste of funds and energies".
