Assembly provides three communities with borehole

Tarkwa, June 5, GNA - To ease the perennial water crisis and prevent the continual reliance and use of unsafe water in the Tarkwa-Nsueam Municipality, the assembly has provided a borehole each for three communities and the Tarkwa Slaughter House. The three communities; Simpa Nkwanta, Pataho and Amansei as well as the slaughter house is expected to pay five Ghana pesewas per bucket to enable them to generate funds for the maintenance of the facility and the development of their various communities. An amount of 69,871,05 Ghana cedis was spent on the projects which took two months to complete.

Mrs Christina Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive, during the commissioning, called on members of the communities to avoid partisan politics in the management and usage of the projects. She said a seven member committee would be formed in the various communities to manage the funds and maintain the facility to prevent its break down. Mrs Cobbinah called on those who would be selected to manage the facility to unite and work fervently to develop their communities. Mr Micheal Kojo Johnson, Municipal water and Sanitation Officer, who explained the duties of the committee, said an account would be opened into which monies from the project would be paid and that auditors would check the accounts every three months to ensure that the funds are properly utilised.

He said the rationale behind the sale of the water to members of the communities was to make funds available for the upkeep of the facility rather than to seek for assistance from the assembly which had a lot of responsibilities to cater for. Mr Johnson said members of the committee would be trained to ensure that they discharged their duties effectively. The communities thanked the assembly for the kind gesture and appealed for the provision of school buildings and improved road net works in the Bonsa area.
