Enyan Abaasa (C/R), Aug. 10, GNA - The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly will as from next academic year offer scholarships to junior secondary school candidates who secure between aggregates 6 and 10 in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to pursue courses in senior secondary schools.

Mr Samuel Mensah, Guidance and Counselling Coordinator of the District Directorate of Education who announced this at Enyan-Abaasa on Monday, said the decision was reached between the assembly and the directorate to motive the children to learn hard to improve the falling standards of education in the district.

He was speaking at a career guidance forum for about 100 JSS two students, organised by the directorate to assist them in identifying their potentialities and choosing the requisite courses at the SSS.

Mr Mensah appealed to parents not to force their children into taking up subjects in which they have no interest, since such imposition of subjects could ruin their future careers.

He, however, explained to the children that, failing to qualify for the SSS did not make one useless, because those who failed to qualify, could learn vocations like tailoring and carpentry, and asked those who were talented in sports, to strive to improve.

Mr Mensah advised them to take their lessons seriously and not to engage in vices like smoking of Indian hemp and cigarettes and to respect their teachers, parents and elders to enable them to grow up to become responsible citizens.
