Begoro (E/R), May 15, GNA - A group of traders at the Begoro market have expressed dissatisfaction at the decision by the Fanteakwa District Assembly to eject them from the spot and construct in their place a district assembly cold store.
The traders complained that the ejection by the Assembly without re-location to any suitable place would deprive them of their livelihood.
The spokesperson for the traders, Mrs Joyce Afoakwa, told the Ghana News Agency at Begoro on Friday that the verbal order by the Assembly, giving them two weeks ultimatum to remove their wares and their structures, elapsed on Friday April 12, but they had nowhere to go until their problem was solved.
She added that ejecting them onto the already choked street would aggravate traffic congestion on the street.
According to her, now that the market was too small to accommodate the growing number of traders, the Assembly should rescind its decision to eject them and rather expand the new Begoro market to accommodate the traders.
When contacted, the Fanteakwa District Assembly Works Engineer, Mr John Afrifa, confirmed the story, saying, the affected traders were operating under unauthorized temporary structures. He said the traders had been given two sites in the market to relocate to but they have not heeded to the advice.
