Assembly to embark on 1.2 billion cedis projects

Fomena (Ash), Feb 25, GNA - The Adansi North District Assembly is to embark on 1.2 billion-cedi projects in five communities under the HIPC programme this year.

The construction of the three-unit classroom block with sanitary facilities at Kusa and a 16-seat vault chamber toilet at Akwansrem would be the first projects to be tackled following the receipt of a letter from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning informing the assembly of the allocation of 360 million cedis. Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, the District Chief Executive, announced these at the assembly meeting at Fomena.

Other projects to be undertaken as soon as funds are available include the construction of a three-unit classroom block with sanitary facilities each at Bena and Brofoyedru and a 16-seat toilet at Ahwiaso. Mr Ameyaw said all the HIPC projects started in 2004 had been completed including a 16-seat chamber toilet each at Kyekyewere and Medoma.

He said projects under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) were not progressing as expected since work on the Science Resource Centre at the T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary School at Fomena was at a standstill whilst the contractor working on the Bodwesango Secondary School project had abandoned it.

"I am reliably informed that the project has been determined and re-awarded. The contractor is yet to commence work", he said. Mr Ameyaw said the Department of Feeder Roads was poised to make its presence felt in the new district as a number of feeder roads were being considered for construction.

"The re-shaping of 30.10-kilometre stretch of Fomena town roads, Fomena-Old Ayaase and Fumso-Aboabo Number One roads have been awarded on contract to African Royals Company Limited at a contract sum of 427.482 million cedis."
