Accra, Sept 15, GNA – The Assemblyman for Nima, Umar Sanda Mohammed, has appealed to the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing to liaise with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to construct boreholes to alleviate the water problem of the people.

Mr Mohammed said the pipelines in the area had become obsolete and broken down.

Mr Mohammed made the appeal when he inspected a new toilet facility in Nima.

He said more modern toilets had been constructed at vantage points in the Nima community which needed water for their use in addition to the potable water for domestic consumption.

He said the water situation in Nima was so acute that residents carried gallons to distant communities daily in search of water, therefore, urgent attention was needed to solve the problem.

He, therefore, called on the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to work with assembly members to renovate and complete water and other projects in their electoral areas.

The Assemblyman said plans were advanced to open a skill training centre in dressmaking, shoe making, soap making and hairdressing in Nima to provide the youth with the opportunity to acquire skills in trades of their interest.

Mr Mohammed said this would lead to an improvement in their livelihoods as well as provide a pathway to self employment.
