Debra-Camp (Ash), Oct. 23, GNA- Mr Ofori Amanfo Bonsu, Assemblyman for Debra-Camp in the Atwima District has warned cocoa purchasing clerks operating in the area not to use hanging scales to cheat cocoa farmers. He said any purchasing clerk who would be caught using a hanging scale would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

Addressing purchasing clerks from the various cocoa buying agencies operating in the area and the various chief farmers at Debra-Camp on Wednesday, Mr Bonsu noted that cocoa farmers had for far too long been cheated by some unscrupulous purchasing clerks.

He said they were not going to allow any purchasing clerk to take farmers for a ride and asked them to be honest in their dealings since they would be monitored.

Mr Bonsu advised the farmers to sell only well dried beans to the agencies so that the country can maintain its good name as the producer of quality cocoa on the world market.

He urged both the purchasing clerks and farmers to insist on the use of the Akuafo Cheques.

The Assemblyman appealed to the government to rehabilitate the 16-kilometre Atwima-Adjeikrom-Debra-Camp road for easy evacuation of cocoa and foodstuff.
