Soe (UE), Jan. 12, GNA - The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly (BMA) is to institute a revenue collection competition for electoral areas within the municipality as a strategy to maximise revenue collection for development projects.

This was announced by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Rockson Bukari, when he addressed a rally at Soe near Bolgatanga. It was organised by the assemblywoman for the electoral area, Madam Agnes Atayila.

Mr Rockson said the competition would enable the communities to pay up all taxes and rates so that the assembly would generate revenue to provide the communities with the needed social infrastructure instead of relying on the assembly's common fund, which he described as "problem fund."

On the impending elections, Mr Rockson assured the people of Bolgatanga that the campaign would be free of rancour and "house-fighting" since "we belong to one family and every body has the right to join a party of his or her choice."

The MCE cautioned the youth against drugs and disrespect for the elderly, adding that the elderly too should refrain from alcoholism. Madam Atayila, through whose initiative the assembly put up a six-classroom school block, an office, a store and a four-seater KIVP toilet for the primary school in the area, appealed for a JSS to be attached to the school.

She said as a health worker, her prime concern was the environment and good sanitation for good health, and charged the assembly to put up a two-seater toilet each for the Yipalla and Soe communities. She called on the assembly to supply the area with rubbish bins and rehabilitate an uncompleted toilet to help keep the environment clean at all times.
