Assin Dawomanko (C/R) Oct 8, GNA- The Board Chairman of the Ghana Water Company Limited, (GWCL) Mr. Abudulai Rahaman Musah on Saturday asked the management of the company to asses the situation at the Assin Manso raw water pumping station and the Assin Dawomanko treatment Plant which have been abandoned over the past 30 years.
The two projects, which were started in the 1970s, by the State Construction and later awarded to Bi-Water, a United Kingdom company have been lying idle due to lack of funds to complete them for use. They form part of the four-town water supply projects of which Kpeve, Konongo and Techiman benefited.
Mr Musah made the call when members of the board visited the two projects as part of its three-day working visit to some water projects in the Central Region.
He expressed concern about the way the facilities were lying ideal whiles the beneficiary communities were forced to depend on NGOs for boreholes and wells, and stressed that everything would be done to complete the projects for use.
Mr Samuel Lamptey, Managing Director of GWCL said due to the long neglect, the Company would have to assess the facilities before costing and sourcing the necessary funds to complete them.
He said the equipment currently at the two stations were of good quality and that with the needed funds, the company would be able to put them into good use to provide water for the Assin South district, which currently depends on wells and boreholes for water supply.
Mr. Kwaku Dovlo, Regional Manager, of GWLC for his part appealed to the board to ensure that the two projects were given the needed financial support to help revive them to improve the water situation in the area.
