The Korye Cultural Theatre Troupe has constructed a six-unit classroom block valued at One Hundred and Fifty Thousand dollars for the people of Assin-Besease in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

Mr Amonu Nuhu, Director of the Cape Coast based Troupe who commissioned the block on Friday, said his outfit decided to execute the project when it realised the area had no school and this occurred when the troupe visited the area four years ago to shoot a movie.

He said it was unfortunate to note that pupils in the area had to commute on foot to a distance of about 10 kilometres to Abakrampa in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District before they can access quality education.

The Director said the classroom block was built with assistance from a philanthropic organization in Michigan USA and called on other organizations to help put smiles on the faces of pupils in deprived communities.

Mr Nuhu used the occasion to plead with politicians to give more attention to the development needs of rural communities.

The Chief of Assin-Besease, Nana Kofi Acquah, thanked the cultural troupe for the assistance but expressed regret that the concerns of many communities like theirs go unheeded after the main political campaign period is over.

He said lack of electricity and poor road network were the major challenges facing the community and called on the district assembly to help address their basic needs.

Nana Acquah appealed to parents to take advantage of the classroom block to send their children to school and ensure they stay in school by providing them with their educational needs.

Korye Cultural Theatre Troupe was established five years ago and activities undertaken by them include the performance of traditional music, dance and film making.
