The number of cocoa spraying gangs in the Assin District have been increased from last year's figure of 61 to 110 to allow for full and effective coverage of cocoa farms in the district.
Mr Kwabena Karikari Apau, Assin District Chief Executive, who announced this at the inauguration the Assin Praso Area Council, said the increase was in response to demands from farmers.
He said the government had also introduced a pilot "hi-tech" cocoa rehabilitation exercise, under which 2,050 cocoa farmers have been selected to start a cocoa maintenance exercise in the district.
Under the package each farmer would be given six bags of fertilizer to apply on two acres of their farms and compare the yield with that of the un-fertilized portion.
On the area councils, Mr Apau said members who failed to attend meetings for no justifiable reason would be withdrawn and replaced with more committed people.
