Associated Consultants Limited has presented a cheque of GH¢10,000 to 1963 Year Group of Achimota School to support a project to upgrade the science block of the academic facility into a science complex.

The year group had chosen to upgrade the science block as part of its 50th anniversary celebration in 2013 and as a contribution to make the school contemporary and globally competitive.

The group has undertaken a detailed analysis of the rehabilitation of the science complex.

Out of the detailed programme, it is undertaking the rehabilitation of the basic infrastructure of the present science block and the transformation of the science theatre into a modern audio-visual centre equipped with video projection system, public address system and video conferencing system among other facilities.

The development of the advanced science complex, as envisioned by the Group, involves two major components; formulation of a science complex blueprint that would provide a vision of what an appropriate modern science facility ought to entail.

The constituent parts or science complex modules are the building blocks that formed the advanced science complex, and each module is expected to be a relatively independent usable part of the complex.

This approach will facilitate the completion of the complex in an orderly manner over a period of time, and at each stage, contributors will be encouraged and guided to select what module(s) they may be in a position to implement, consistent with the overall vision of the complex.

Presenting the cheque, Mr. Kofi Asare Yeboah, Chief Executive Officer of Associated Consultants, said the company’s contribution to the project was to help in the transformation and development of the country.

He said it was important for individuals and companies who had benefited from the country in the past to give back so that the coming generation could also benefit from the dividend.

Mr. Yeboah, who is also a member of the year group, said the contribution was for the future development of Achimota.

Dr Joyce Rosalyin Aryee, President of the Year Group, said the advanced science complex would contribute to the strengthening of teaching and learning of science, which was critical for the country’s development.

“Our expectation is that the refurbished science block will provide students good grounding in science that transforms the mind,” she said.
