More than 60 candidates preparing for the impending Basic Education Certificate (BECE) in the Sekyere-East and Kumawu Districts of Ashanti have benefited from a workshop to adequately prepare them for the examination.

The Asekyerewa Students Association, a group which seeks to raise the standard of education in rural areas, organised the event at the weekend at Effiduase in the Sekyere-East District for students from some selected schools.

“Why should I fail the 2015 BECE?” was the theme for the event, which has been held annually since 2013.

Mr. Emmanuel Badu Yeboah, an examiner of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) took the candidates through processes, which would aid them to answer questions effectively to help them write the examination with confidence.

These include what examiners expect from candidates and how to manage the allotted time to answer all questions.

Mr. Yeboah, who is a member of the Association, exposed the candidates to the dos and don’ts of examinations and advised them to avoid malpractices.

Some voluntary teachers conducted a short mock examination to give practicality to the lectures.

Mr. Kwame Appiah Kubi, the President of the Association, advised the pupils to study hard and pass with flying colours.

He was happy that the BECE results in the area since the annual event was introduced had seen great improvement and the Tomhell School, the Asantewaa Junior High School and the Effiduase Adventist Junior High, all in the Sekyere-East as the beneficiaries.

Miss Jocelyn Agyemang, a candidate from Tomhell Preparatory and Junior High school, thanked the organizers, on behalf of the candidates.
