Accra, March 22, GNA - The International Association of Black Yoga Teachers, Ghana (IABYT-Ghana) is organizing a day's Yoga Clinic for the general public as part of preparations for its upcoming first Africa International Summit in Accra slated for August this year. The clinic, to be held at the Rabito Clinic at Osu in Accra on March 31st, is aimed at educating Ghanaians on Yoga practice which is said to be an ideal form of health therapy.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday in Accra Mr Issah Musah Adams, Public Relations Officer of the IABYT-Ghana said in other parts of the world, Yoga practice through meditation and adherence to good nutrition guide, formed part of health therapy in clinics and hospitals.
He said the Clinic would debunk misconceptions about yoga practice. "It is not a religion and has no correlation with any of the religions in any part of the world.
He said yoga practice slowed down the aging process in terms of physical appearance and improved the life expectancy of a population, which guaranteed healthy labour force for productive activities. On the Africa Summit which span August 8-12, Mr Adams said about 300 international Yoga practitioners from the US, Europe, Asia and Africa, would be attending to provide the platform to create the awareness of yoga practice and its relevance to the overall development of mankind.
"It would be a homecoming summit for most of our African brothers and sisters in the world over," Mr Adams said. He said besides, the summit delegates, who had varying professional disciplines, would take the opportunity to explore business opportunities in Ghana.
"They are coming not only as Yoga practitioners but also as businessmen and women and strategic investors to meet the Ghanaian business community, interact with them and find ways of forging partnership." They will also tour most parts of the country, especially tourist sites.
Mr Adams announced that Dr Edmund Delle and Dr Mrs Cecilia Nutakor, both Ghanaian medical practitioners would together with other foreign health experts launch a project dubbed; "Health Empowerment Project" during the Africa Summit. The project would educate people on how to deal effectively with their physical, mental and emotional difficulties so as to lead sound and healthy lifestyles. 22 March 07
