The Asuofua Health Centre emerged the best innovative health facility in the Atwima District at the District Health Administration's award ceremony at Nkawie.

In all, 32 health workers, 16 community based surveillance volunteers and eight Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) were honoured for their dedication and sense of duty.

They received prizes ranging from colour television sets, gas cookers, wrist watches, wax prints, suitcases, shirts, cassette recorders and wall clocks.

Dr Kofi Asare, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, commended the award winners for their outstanding performances and hoped they will continue to work hard to achieve more results.

He, however, cautioned them against indiscipline and warned that his administration will not countenance any acts of indiscipline.

Miss Beatrice Appah, Atwima District Director of Health Services, said the awards were in recognition of hard work exhibited by both staff and the community representatives, particularly those in the very distressed areas.

She noted the prevalence of the Buruli ulcer in the district and hoped that with the involvement of the communities, any sign of the disease would be identified promptly and reported to the nearest health facility for treatment.

Dr Ernest Ofosu Paddy of the Nkawie Government Hospital, who chaired the function, encouraged health personnel in the district to improve upon their work by exhibiting a high sense of professional skills to patients.
