Mr Johnson Ahiakpor, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, has denied reports that about 800 final year students from various Senior High Schools (SHS) in the district may not write this year’s West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for non-payment of school fees.

He said Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, who put out the information, did not cross check the information from the schools’ authorities.

The MP was quoted as having said about 800 students from five SHSs in the district might not sit the WASSE this year due to their inability to pay school and registration fees.

Addressing a press conference in reaction to the issue at Atimpoku on Thursday, Mr Ahiakpor said on hearing the information, the assembly through the District Education Oversight Committee conducted an investigation and found that it was false.

He said records from the schools showed that it was a few students from Boso and Akwamuman SHSs numbering about 10 whose registration delayed due to late payment of registration fees.

Mr Ahiapkor said since the information broke out, he had received numerous calls from some parents as well as students who were alarmed by the wrong information given by the MP.
