Asuogyaman District Assembly exceeds 2009 revenue target

Akosombo, Oct. 21, GNA - The Asuogyaman District Assembly exceeded its 2009 revenue target by about 6.81 percent, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Johnson Ahiakpor announced at the Eastern Regional "Meet-The-Press" forum at Atimpoku on Wednesday. The Assembly collected GH¢173,944.03 in the year as against GH¢162,103.14 projected. In 2008, the District failed to attain its targeted revenue of GH¢142,286. Meanwhile, the Assembly's 2009 expected grant did not materialized. Grant expected was GH¢1.571 million but it received GH¢695,000 in the 2009 year.

Mr Ahiakpor said, this year's projected revenue is GH¢235,137 with an expected grant of GH¢2.178 million. He said the Assembly was currently undertaking a lot of development projects ranging from construction of roads, school building and markets to open up the district's economic and business potentials. Mr Ahiakpor said considering the number of works the Assembly intended to do to improve the economic well-being of the people, it would need more money to achieve its goals. He said the Assembly had been able to pay GH¢83,000 out of GH¢96,000 debt it owed since 2009.

Mr Ahiakpor said the Assembly was constructing three six-unit classroom blocks at the Frankadua Baptist Primary School, Nuriyya Islamic Primary School at Akosombo and Akyease District Assembly Primary School under the "Schools-Under-Trees Project". The DCE said all the project contracts had been awarded. He said under the same project, processing of documents for the award of contract for five schools, which included Adjena Primary School, Adjabui Primary School, Dodi Asantekrom Junior High School (JHS), Yenianma JHS, and Kudikope Primary School, would soon be completed for work to start. 21 Oct. 10
