The Atebubuman Education Secretariat is determined to shape education within the Atebubu Traditional Area with a key focus on fostering human development as a pathway to the overall advancement of the community.
The Secretariat, established under the auspices Ohempon Dr. Yeboah Asiamah, the Omanhene of Atebubu Traditional Area, is part of his education and human development vision for the development of Atebubu.
Charged with the mandate of providing support and access to excellent and equitable education in the area, the Secretariat is made up of distinguished personalities like Dr. Paul Kwadwo Addo (Education Specialist and Deputy Registrar at the Directorate of Student Affairs, KNUST, Chairperson), Emilia Adjei Gyasi (Achimota SHS, Vice Chairperson), Amponsah-Fei Joseph (Executive Secretary, former Headmaster New Konkrompe SHS), Prof. Camara Obeng (UCC), Daniel Akwasi Amoako (US, NAACA Chairman), Issah Gariba (GES, Atebubu), Nana Nimo Konadu (Odikro, Akurakoro, GES, Atebubu) and Ernest Ofori Gyan ( Administrative Secretary).
Highlighting the vital role of human capital in societal development, the Chairperson of the Atebubuman Education Secretariat, Dr. Paul Kwadwo Addo, emphasised that the Secretariat is poised towards creating an environment that nurtures talent, encourages academic excellence, and career, guidance, and prepares students to contribute meaningfully to society.
“The development of any society hinges on the strength of its human capital, so our commitment at the Secretariat is to foster an environment that will equip our students with the skills and values needed to make meaningful contributions to society”, he stressed.
He intimated that the Secretariat has outlined a wide range of tailored and comprehensive programmes towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 for the advancement of the community through education.
“We have carefully outlined targeted programmes aimed at achieving SDG 4 to promote inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Through these initiatives, the secretariat is optimistic about advancing our community’s growth and progress by making quality education accessible to everyone”, he added.
He further noted that, within a short space of its inception, the secretariat has successfully implemented impactful programmes and initiatives that have already begun to create positive change in the community.
Honouring excellence
The Secretariat as part of the Atebubuman Excellence Awards scheme awarded six hardworking and dedicated educational workers at the grand durbar of the 2024 “Foryawoo” celebration.
The six awardees: Alexis Tuoyintir (Best Teacher: SHS Category) Gaabonzie Kenneth (Best Teacher: KG/Primary Category, Mavis Takyi (Best Educational Worker: Non-Teaching) Ofori Daniel (Best Head Teacher: KG/Primary/J.H.S Category), Adu Samuel K. Frimpong (Best Teacher: J.H.S Category and Candida Olivia Quainoo (Best Tutor: Atebubu College of Education) received a citation of recognition, television sets, and other prizes as testament of their selfless service.
Radio-assisted learning
To help final-year Junior High School (JHS) pupils prepare adequately for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the Secretariat has partnered with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and has been organising radio-based classes as a supplementary resource to traditional classroom learning. This radio-based learning, designed to interact with the candidates using call-ins, quizzes, or listener feedback to foster engagement and participation serves as a valuable revision tool and strengthens their grasp of key concepts.
Career Guidance
Recognising the crucial role of career guidance in helping individuals maximise their potential for meaningful development, the Secretariat has also instituted an annual post-career guidance seminar for Senior High School and Junior High graduates in the area.
The maiden event this year brought together speakers including Reverend Professor Edward Appiah, former Director General, NACCA, Bismark Appiah-Kubi, Bono East Regional Director, Ghana TVET Service, Prof. Camara Obeng, UCC, Kwaku Osei Duah, STU, Emilia Adjei-Gyasi, Achimota SHS and W.O 1 Solomon Danso, Ghana Armed Forces who took turns to guide graduates on navigating their career paths. They offered insights on adapting to changing opportunities, ultimately empowering graduates to achieve personal fulfilment and contribute meaningfully to societal advancement.
Support for brilliant but needy students
Moving forward, the Secretariat seeks to foster academic excellence, promote equal educational opportunities, and nurture future leaders from the community by supporting brilliant but needy students in the area through a range of targeted support schemes including scholarship funds, grants, mentorship, and provision of learning materials to alleviate financial barriers and create opportunities for deserving students to reach their academic potential.
Appeal for support
The Secretariat has made a passionate appeal to philanthropists and corporate organisations to contribute generously to their cause, highlighting that such support is essential for sustaining and expanding their activities in reaching more individuals in need and implementing impactful programmes.
