Atiwa holds stakeholders meeting on Health Insurance

Kyebi (E/R), Feb. 21, GNA- Mission and selected private hospitals in addition to government health institutions are to be accredited to offer service to District wide Mutual Health Insurance Schemes under the proposed National Health Insurance Scheme.

Mr. Christian Ashiagbor of the Eastern Regional Secretariat of the Mutual Health Insurance Schemes said this at a stakeholders meeting of Chiefs, Opinion leaders and Assembly Members from the Atiwa Constituency on the proposed East Akim District Health Insurance Scheme at Kyebi on Friday.

The meeting, which was to consider the proposed constitution for the establishment of the East Akim District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme was organized by the District Assembly.

He explained that, the decision to accredit private hospitals and clinics to also provide service to Mutual Health Insurance Scheme is to enable quality health care to be made available to the people of Ghana and at affordable fee.

Mr. Ashiagbor urged the participants to use the pulpits, mosques and shrines to educate the people in their areas of the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to give the needed support for the early take off of the scheme in the District.

Mr. Amponsah Antwi, member of the East Akim District Health Insurance Implementation Committee assured that anytime the proposed Atiwa District was created, the East Akim District would provide all the support required for the establishment of the Health Insurance Scheme in the new District.

He appealed to the participants to offer the necessary support to ensure that the scheme succeeds.
