Atobra wins best farmer in Volta Region

Srogboe, Dec. 5, GNA - Twenty-five farmers, institutions and workers were honoured at the Volta Regional Farmers Day Awards ceremony at Srogboe in the Keta Municipal Area during which Mr Francis Atobra, from North-Tongu District, was adjudged the overall best. Mr Atubra, 60, took home a corn mill, a pair of Wellington boots, a radio cassette player, a carton of insecticide, a knapsack sprayer, six machetes and a certificate.

Srogboe, Dec. 5, GNA - Twenty-five farmers, institutions and workers were honoured at the Volta Regional Farmers Day Awards ceremony at Srogboe in the Keta Municipal Area during which Mr Francis Atobra, from North-Tongu District, was adjudged the overall best. Mr Atubra, 60, took home a corn mill, a pair of Wellington boots, a radio cassette player, a carton of insecticide, a knapsack sprayer, six machetes and a certificate. The Regional Day which was held jointly with the Keta Municipal Area Farmers Day saw Mr Henry Agbeyesu, also 60, from Venadzi declared the overall best among 18 other awardees in the municipality. He had a certificate, a radio cassette player, a half-piece wax print, a bicycle, Wellington toot, a spraying machine, and insecticides. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister commended the farmers and said government would continue to provide the necessary infrastructure to enhance agricultural development in the region and the country. He urged the youth to take advantage of the favourable services provided in block-farm scheme to enhance their livelihood. Mr Sylvester Tornyeava, Keta Municipal Chief Executive, called for private sector investment in agro-industries to offset the perennial glut faced by many farmers particularly those in vegetable production. 5 Dec. 10
