Atwima-Agogo (Ash), July 11, GNA - Residents of Atwima-Agogo have commenced work on a 790 million-cedi four-unit living accommodation for teachers in the area through self-help.

Nana Owusu Bempah, Atwima-Boasohene who announced this after leading the Ghana News Agency to inspect the project, said he had allocated 10 building plots valued at more than 150 million cedis to the community to be sold and the proceeds used to finance the project. Twenty-five million cedis has so far been spent on the project, which is scheduled to be completed in December, this year. Nana Owusu Bempah said the project was being financed through fund-raising harvests, special levies, voluntary contributions and resources from the Boaso stool land.

The Boasohene advised citizens of Atwima-Agogo especially the non-residents to donate generously towards the early completion of the project.

Opanin Yaw Poku, a citizen of the town and a prominent businessman, has offered scholarships to orphans in the local basic school. He has also promised to provide English textbooks to pupils in all the classes in the basic school.

He advised the teachers to reciprocate the community's gesture by dedicating and committing themselves adequately to help raise education standard in the area.

Mr Owusu Fofie, nominal headteacher of the school, commended Nana Owusu Bempah and Opanin Poku for their immense contribution towards the development of education in the area.
