Ahwiaa (Ash), April 27, GNA - Residents of Ahwiaa, a farming community near Mfensi in the Atwima Nwabiagya District, are putting up a three-bedroom teachers' bungalow at the cost of 100 million cedis for teachers in the area.
Mr John Adu-Boahen, Chairman of the Parent/Teacher Association (PTA), said 25 million cedis have so far been spent on the project. Mr James Adusei Sarkodie, the immediate past Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya who initiated the project last year, donated 20 bags of cement while the district assembly has also pledged extra 20 bags of cement.
Mr Adu-Boahen said citizens are financing the project through voluntary contributions.
Mr Baffour Asare-Bediako, an Assistant Director of Education, urged the community to speed up the construction to relieve teachers of the burden of commuting daily from Atwima Abuakwa to school. He expressed concern about the school's low enrolment and advised the residents to send their children to school.
Nana Kwabena Sarfoh, the chief of the area, appealed to the district assembly to increase material assistance to enable the community complete the project on schedule. 27 April 05
