Atwima Physically Challenged Workers Association inaugurated

Nkawie (Ash), July 25, GNA - Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the Atwima District Director of Education, has asked physically challenged persons not to allow their peculiar situation to deter them from achieving their goals in life.

He said, "Disability is not inability and it, therefore, serves no useful purpose for you to brood over a condition that you cannot change".

Mr Obeng-Darko, who was speaking at the inauguration of the Atwima District Physically Challenged Workers Association at Nkawie on Friday, urged members to be determined and persevere to face the challenges of life.

He asked the Government to ensure that physically challenged persons have equal access to education, employment and other necessities of life.

Mr Obeng-Darko also urged the authorities to assist the physically challenged persons to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them contribute meaningfully to national development. Mr Stephen Gyasi-Debrah, the Atwima District Peripatetic Officer, said the association was aimed at uniting the physically challenged persons in the area.

It will also serve as a platform for them to share ideas towards their social and economic advancement and review their activities to enhance their work.

Mr Gyasi-Debrah advised the physically challenged persons to use the Disability Guide Allowance provided them by the Government judiciously to improve their standard of living.

Madam Irene Comfort Badu, the Atwima District Early Childhood Education Co-ordinator, advised the physically challenged persons to unite and take advantage of opportunities being offered them by individuals, organisations and Government to improve their standard of living.

Mr Joe Kingsley Ofori, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Finance and Administration, urged Parliament to pass the Disability Bill into law to give hope and protection to the physically challenged persons.
