Atwima commends USAID for promoting quality education.

Nkawie (Ash), April 29, GNA- The Atwima District Assembly has expressed gratitude to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for its immense contribution towards the promotion of quality education in the district.

Alhaji Yacubu Ziblim, the Atwima District Co-ordinating Director, who expressed the appreciation said, apart from putting-up classroom blocks in some rural communities, the QUIPS/CSA project has also created enough awareness on the community participation in educational programmes.

He expressed the gratitude when Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the Atwima District Director of Education led Mrs Dora Ansah-Asamoah and Mr Baah Acheamfour and a team of officers from QUIPS/CSA to pay a courtesy call on him at his office on Wednesday.

The visit aimed at discussing with the district assembly, the need to sustain the good practices of the QUIPS/CSA nine years intervention in the promotion of quality education in the district.

Alhaji Ziblim said, the district assembly spends a large proportion of its budget allocation on education and that, more than 400 teacher-trainees are being sponsored by the assembly in various training colleges throughout the country.

Out of the number, 117 would graduate this year to fill various vacancies in some rural communities, while another batch of 166 students have just entered the colleges.

Mrs Ansah-Asamoah was happy with the assembly's commitment in the promotion of education in the district and advised it to contribute meaningfully and financially to sustain the achievements of the QUIPS/CSA project.

Mr Obeng-Darko commended the District Assembly for its immense support towards the improvement and promotion of education in the district and said, the assembly has put up classroom blocks, teachers' living accommodations and offered many scholarships to brilliant but needy students in the tertiary, second cycle and basic institutions. The assembly, Mr Obeng-Darko said, is also putting-up an administration block for the education directorate.
