Atwima district assembly fires two contractors

Nkawie (Ash), Jan 24, GNA- The Atwima district assembly has terminated the contracts of two road contractors for poor work and delay in executing their contracts.

They are Messrs Pee-Wuud, a Cape Coast-based contracting company and Atwisco Construction Company based in Kumasi.

Mr Charles Yeboah, the Atwima District Chief Executive, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Nkawie on Wednesday, said Messrs Pee-Wuud was given the Nkrumah-Pakyi and Nkrumah-Amaada feeder roads for rehabilitation about two years ago but had up till now not even started work.

He said Atwisco Construction was also awarded the Kwanfinfi-Kotokuom and other feeder roads but had not started work. Mr Yeboah said what was even worrying was that the two contractors collected part of the contract sums but had failed to start work. The DCE said apart from terminating their contracts, the two contractors would be made to refund the part-payment they collected to government or in default, they would be sent to court.

He warned that any contractor who would be found by the assembly to be lazy or inefficient would have his or her contract terminated. Mr Yeboah, however, commended two other contractors who performed well and named them as Messrs Natto Complex who had done a good job on the Akropong-Pasoro feeder road.

He named the other contractor as Messrs Fogyna Construction Limited, who had also completed the Adankwame-Kapro road and gave the assurance that good and hard working contractors would be given extra contracts on completion of their contracts.
