Sekondi, Dec. 24, GNA - Mr. Isaac Morgan Lawe, Western Regional Fire Officer has advised Ghanaians to be extra vigilant and avoid causing domestic fire accidents during the Christmas and New Year festivities. "The joy of Christmas should not be marred by fire outbreaks either at home, workplace or even on the farm".
Mr. Lawe, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Sekondi on Wednesday cautioned that, all electrical appliances that are not in use, should be switched-off, whilst young children should not be allowed to use electric or gas cooking stoves and gadgets without supervision.
He also advised cigarette smokers to be careful and properly dispose of the butts of cigarettes, adding that, "any carelessness could results in the maiming and destruction of lives and property."
Mr. Lawe appealed to users of gas cylinders to ensure that their cylinders do not leak and all valves were properly closed after use. He also cautioned road users, especially Taxi drivers to avoid the tendency of obstructing fire tenders on their way to fight fire outbreaks.
He advised residents within the Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Area (SAEMA) to apply for permits from the metropolitan assembly before organising social activities on the middle of major streets.
