Agona-Duakwa (C/R), March 8, GNA- The chairman of the Agona-Duakwa Local Council of Churches, Presbyter Jonathan Fosu has appealed to politicians and party supporters to avoid the use of abusive language in the campaign preceding the general elections.
He said abusive language and provocative statements by some politicians and other party functionaries in recent times posed a great threat to the country's young democracy, and must be avoided before it escalates early enough before they degenerate into serious conflict.
Mr Fosu was speaking at a meeting with members of the 13 churches, which constitute the Agona Duakwa branch of the council to plan how they could contribute positively towards the development of the town. He said churches in the town have accepted the challenge to collaborate efforts with the chiefs and opinion leaders to promote the social and economic well-being of the people.
He called on politicians and supporters of political groups to eschew victimization, be supportive citizens and to cultivate the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation towards building a better Ghana. Reverend Abraham John Attah Assan, in-charge of the Agona Duakwa Ebenezer Methodist Church and executive officer of the council advised all eligible Christians in the town to register during the impending voters registration exercise.
Rev. Assan recalled the notable contributions Mr. Kojo Yankah, a prominent citizen of the town and Mr. Emmanuel Edu-Yeboah, MP for Agona East, have been making towards the development of the town.
