Awerebo (W/R), Sept. 20, GNA — Residents of Awerebo Number Two in the Nzema East Municipality have expressed concern over neglect of their development needs by the assembly.
Mr. Frank Moses Tetteh, the Community Secretary, told the GNA during a recent tour of the area that the town lacked basic social amenities such as a school, potable water, electricity, clinic, and roads.
He said it was pathetic that school pupils walked over four miles daily to Gwira Banso or Akropong to attend classes and that, any time it rains, the pupils could not attend lessons because of flood and poor road network.
Mr. Tetteh said the town has 500 inhabits who are predominantly cocoa farmers and that due to inaccessible roads they carried cocoa on their heads and walked long distances to Gwira Banso, Akropong and other market centers.
This, he said, had resulted in large quantities of foodstuff and cocoa going bad on their farms.
Mr Tetten said the people contributed GHc15, 000 towards construction of a road to the town and the Assembly promised to foot two-third of the cost after completion.
However, he said, after completion the Assembly failed to fulfill its promise and appealed to the Assembly to do so.
Mr Tetteh said due to lack of social amenities in the town, most trained teachers refused postings to the area and that had compelled the town folks to hire teachers from other surrounding towns to teach their children at home and pay them from their meager earnings.
