Awudome (E/R), April 4, GNA - Government is to spend 16 billion cedis in transforming Awudome Secondary School at Tsito into a model Senior Secondary School in the Ho District.
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports Harbours and Railways announced this at durbar of staff and students, chiefs and people of Tsito to climax the school's 40 years anniversary celebrations. It was under the theme: "Forty years of Secondary Education in Awusco, Achievements, Challenges and the Way Forward".
Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi, however urged the students to study hard and aim at making their own positive imprints on the history of the school, rather than bask in its past glories.
Similarly, teachers should do their best against all odds to remain a source of inspiration to the students.
Miss Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, commended the communal spirit of the people of Tsito and "the vision" of the Tsito Native Teachers Association, which she said, had sustained the school in the past 40 years.
She said government has allocated funds towards the completion of the school's Home Economics block, which had remained at the foundation stage since 1987.
Mr G.O.Y. Bonuedie, Headmaster of the school, said facilities at the school have been under stress from the ever-increasing student population and was optimistic that the model school status of the school would reflect positively on both teaching and learning in the school. The student currently has a student population of 1,773 of which 953 are girls.
Mr Bonuedie said the school has for the past ten years been posting impressive results in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCEs). Togbe Gogo Dake XII, Chief of Tsito, thanked the government for selecting the school to be developed into a model secondary school in the Ho District.
He pledged the continued support of the community towards government's efforts at improving the quality of infrastructure and congenial teaching and learning atmosphere in the school.
Prizes were awarded to long serving staff and students who excelled in various disciplines.
Togbe Afede XII, Agbogbomefia of Asogli, who was the special guest at the event, announced that he was instituting the "best Volta Senior Secondary School graduate" and "the Best district Secondary School teachers" awards schemes to promote academic and teaching excellence in the region beginning from this year.
