The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has donated a total of 3,000 reading books and some learning aids to Odupongkpohe preschools to help the children to develop the habit of reading to aid them in their studies.
The beneficiaries are Odupongkpohe MA and AME Zion in Kasoa.
Dr. Nuhu Adams, Chief Executive for the Municipal Assembly, who made the presentation at the schools, said the donation was in response to the appeal made by the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to the Assembly.
Stakeholders in the education of the children, he said, should pay attention to preschooling because it was the foundation of formal education, and expressed the hope that if the necessary attention was given to that area the educational system would be successful.
The Municipal Chief Executive said it was important to formulate a national policy to ensure that nine-unit classroom-blocks were constructed to house pupils from preschool children to Primary Six, instead of the current six-Unit class room block that house only pupils in class in Primary One to Six.
He advised the teachers to do their best to supplement what the government was investing in the education of the children to acquire the needed skills and knowledge to be productive in the society.
Ms. Sylvia Abina Nkrumah, Preschool Coordinator for the Area, who received the items on behalf of the Municipal Education Director, thanked the Chief Executive and the Assembly for the donation.
She promised that the Municipal Directorate of the GES would ensure that the items were used for the intended purpose.
She appealed to the Assembly that in the future whenever they were constructing school buildings they should include toilet and urinal facilities instead of isolating it on the compound to prevent the children from going outside to use the facilities during lessons.
The coordinator also appealed to the assembly and other philanthropists to support preschools in the area with playing equipment to help develop their skills.
